A man who lost his bride in an attack in Antigua is not expected to live. The couple, both 31, came to Antigua for a two-week honeymoon following their July 12 marriage, police said. The wife was a doctor from the Pontardawe area of south Wales, the BBC reported.  Police Inspector Cornelius Charles said the motive appeared to be robbery but authorities have not ruled out other possibilities. Investigators have not confirmed whether there was more than one intruder.

The twin-island nation of Antigua and Barbuda is favored by British tourists, drawing nearly 97,000 visitors last year, an 8 percent increase from the previous year. Tourism Minister Harold Lovell met on Monday with guests at the hotel, in the island’s southwest, and said security would be increased in the area. The government offered to relocate any guests who wanted to leave.

A police SWAT team raided the home of the mayor Cheye Calvo in the Prince George’s County town of Berwyn Heights on Tuesday, shooting and killing his two dogs, after the mayor “Cheye Calvo” brought in a 32-pound package of marijuana that had been delivered to his doorstep, police said.

Mayor Cheye Calvo was not arrested in the raid, which was carried out about 7 p.m. by the Sheriff’s Office SWAT team and county police narcotics officers. Prince George’s police spokesman Henry Tippett said yesterday that all the residents of the house — Cheye Calvo, his wife and his mother-in-law — are “persons of interest” in the case.

The package was addressed to Cheye Calvo’s wife, Trinity Tomsic, said law enforcement officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the case is ongoing.

• Georgia’s tax-free weekend Articles of Clothing. The exemption applies to articles of clothing and footwear with a sales price of $100 or less per item. Clothing accessories such as handbags, umbrellas, cuff links, handkerchiefs, jewelry, key cases, wallets, watches and watch bands, and ponytail holders and/or similar hair products are not exempt. See lists of exempt items.
• Georgia’s tax-free weekend Personal Computers. A single purchase of $1,500 or less of personal computers and/or related accessories is exempt. If the single purchase exceeds $1,500, the entire transaction is taxable. See list of exempt items.
• Georgia’s tax-free weekend General School Supplies. The exemption applies to the purchase of general school supplies with a sales price of $20 or less per item. See list of exempt items.

The exemptions are intended for an individual’s personal use. The exemptions exclude items rented, leased, purchased by businesses, or purchased for resale. The exemptions do not apply to items sold at theme parks, entertainment complexes, hotels, restaurants, and airports.

In Devon, for example, trade is brisk in July and August while November and February are much quieter. Buyers should be aware of how tourism as an industry has changed since the halcyon days of the British seaside resort. Step 6 .No prospective hotel owner can ignore the power of the ‘grey pound’. Britain’s over 60s are richer, healthier and more populous than ever – and they are determined to enjoy their retirement. Activity-based breaks, such as golf, cycling and walking long-distance paths such as the South West coast or the Pennine Way, are increasingly popular among those in this age group. The latter offers great opportunities for the potential entrepreneur. Of course, the key to running a successful hotel is to understand your potential clientele.
